NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, September 18, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Degrees, a new social app that turns your real-world network into a night out, has launched in New York City. Every Friday, Degrees looks at a user’s actual social web – their friends, and the friends of those friends – and routes them to the same bar. One reveal, at the same time, for the whole network. Users walk in already knowing half the room.
Degrees is a deliberate counterpoint to a decade of social apps that made meeting people more digital, not less. In college, walking into a bar and knowing half the room happened on its own; after graduation, those circles scatter, and connection turns into swiping, following, and planning. Degrees is built to bring that feeling back – a new way to meet people and go out in New York City.
The mechanic is simple: users join through a friend, which keeps every room genuinely connected, and each Friday the app finds the one bar that puts the most of a user’s network in the same place and sends everyone there. It picks the spot and gets out of the way.
“The connections are already there,” said Matthew Magidson, founder and CEO of Degrees. “Every Friday, we just put everyone in the same room. You’re not meeting strangers – you’re meeting the people you were always one degree away from.”
New York is the first city in a planned multi-city rollout. The launch party takes place Friday, September 18, at Beckett’s in the Financial District, with Surfside sponsoring complimentary drinks for the first 100 guests and a raffle for New York Islanders tickets. Degrees is available now on the App Store.
